The scissor switches may feel a bit heavy to get over the tactile bump, but typing still feels light overall, and it's very quiet.

Typing feels great as the keys have a short pre-travel distance, and the keycaps are indented to help guide your fingers to the middle, which helps reduce typos or accidental key presses. You can reprogram some function keys to a preset list of commands through the Logitech Options software.

It has white backlighting that makes it a good choice for dark rooms. However, all keys work on macOS, and you can wirelessly pair multiple devices at once over Bluetooth, while you can only pair one device at a time with the Apple keyboard. It's not a dedicated Apple keyboard like the Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad, so you don't get features like Touch ID. If you prefer something cheaper, then check out the Logitech MX Keys. If that isn't an issue for you, it's a solid choice for an office keyboard to use with a Mac.

Also, while it has Bluetooth support, you can only connect to one device at a time, so you can't use it to type a document on your Mac and quickly respond to an email on your tablet. Sadly, it doesn't have any backlighting, which is disappointing for a high-end Apple product, so it's not ideal to use in a dark environment. Typing feels great as the low-profile switches are comfortable and are fairly light to press, but it takes some force to get over the tactile bump. It's Apple's latest release of their well-known Magic Keyboard, and it's available in both a full-size variant, which is the one we tested, and a 75% compact size if you prefer something smaller.Īs this is an Apple keyboard, it's fully compatible with macOS. Just a sleeve, Pencil, and I use the software keyboard and the machine bare, no case. My intention is to get a iPP12.9 to replace it. It has served me very well as it is great as a web browsing machine, playing games, drawing, reading, video, audio, and is a lot more mobile than a laptop. So, what are you doing? I've managed to to use a iPP10.5 as my primary computer for over 4 years now. That means you have to be mindful of charging, and probably Bluetooth connection issues.Īs for the iPP12.9 vs MBA13 question, you need to figure out which device does everything you want. Biggest negative to me is that it is a Bluetooth accessory, not a Smart Connector accessory. They probably saved about 0.5 lbs and kept the weight of the total of both to around 3 lbs (for the 12.9" model).īrydge makes a keyboard accessory like you are thinking of:īut it's a 2 lb accessory and a bit chunky. By employing the second hinge, they move the weight of the iPad farther forward unto the keyboard section, and it doesn't need to be as heavy. If you only have the one hinge on the end, you would have to increase the weight of the keyboard side so it wouldn't flip over when unfolded. Anyone had experience with this? It is heavier but the benefit of being able to switch seamlessly between keyboard and pencil, and scan documents (and integrate them) could outweigh the drawbacks? Any thoughts?Īpple's Magic Keyboard for iPad is designed the way it is to save weight and thickness.

I am seriously considering getting a 12.9 inch iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard as a replacement to my MacBook Air. Not sure why they did not do this - probably wanted to differentiate more from the Keyboard Folio? If Apple just made the back stiff and pivot around the main hinge, rather than having the extra fold, they could move the keyboard up and increase the size of the track pad.
